Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 6 Parkland men's basketball won its fifth straight game against Southwestern Michigan College (4-2) on Saturday, November 16. Parkland outrebounded Southwestern Michigan 32-30 while shooting 57.4% from the field (35-61) in the win.
The Cobras (5-0) pulled ahead with 16:20 on the clock in the first half, after a
Lane McVicar three-pointer made the score 11-8. The Cobras maintained the lead for the rest of the first half, going into halftime ahead 48-40. Parkland extended the lead to 15 points with under 12 minutes left in the second half, following a
Jaiden Martin four-point play after the Cobra was fouled on a three-pointer and then sank the free throw. The Cobras never lost the lead in the second half, and the Parkland defense didn't allow the Roadrunners to score in the last two minutes of the game, resulting in a 96-75 win.Â
"A lot of takeaways from tonight's game," Parkland head coach John Bowler stated after the win. "We wanted to start games better and we did that. We wanted to focus on attention to details and for the most part we did that. We wanted to execute better offensively and we did that. The only thing I feel like we could have done better is being more disciplined defensively. We will actively look at improving that area this week."
"Proud of the guys for accepting the challenges we put on their plate," Bowler concluded.
Chandler Jackson went 10-15 from the field and 5-7 from three, leading the Cobras offense with 26 points. Jackson also led the team in rebounds with nine.
Jaiden Martin came off the bench to score 14 points, going 5-5 from the free throw line. The Cobras went 15-26 from three (57.7%) and 11-14 from the free throw line (78.6%).Â
