Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 6 Parkland men's basketball team lost its first game of the season to Missouri State University-West Plains (5-7) on Sunday, December 8. The Cobras (10-1) fell to the Grizzlies 83-77 in double overtime at the St. Louis Community College Shootout. 

Parkland led at the end of the first half 30-28. The game remained close in the second half, and the Grizzlies outscored the Cobras 33-31 to tie the game 61-61 and take it to overtime. After each team scored seven points in the first overtime, the game went to a second overtime, and the Grizzlies pulled out the 83-77 win. The Cobras grabbed 40 rebounds in the loss, led by Grant Chamberlain with seven. Each team shot 37% from the field.

"Credit goes to West Plains for getting the win," Parkland head coach John Bowler said after the first loss of the season. "We did not do what we needed to do to close the game out down the stretch. We made way too many mental mistakes and played too loose with the ball in important situations. We need to show our maturity in the future. We'll address it this week in practice."

JaMonte Williams produced a team-high 18 points and 6 assists. Williams is currently 23rd in the nation in assists with 52.
