Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 5 Parkland men's basketball improved to 10-0 after defeating Region 24 rival Rend Lake College (4-2) at home on Wednesday, December 4.
Kobe Watson led the offense with 17 points, followed by
Grant Chamberlain with 14.
The Cobras (10-0) fell behind early, trailing 16-7 with 13:00 on the clock in the first half. Parkland slowly trimmed the lead over the next several minutes and tied the game 22-22 after two made free throws from
Drew Lewis Jr. With 1:50 left on the clock in the first half, the score was once again even at 32-32. The Cobras were ahead by five going into halftime after a Lewis Jr. dunk extended the lead to 39-34. Parkland took control of the game in the second half and had a 30-point lead in the last few minutes of the game after a
Jaiden Martin bucket put them ahead 79-49. The Cobras outscored the Warriors 46-18 in the second half to earn the 85-52 win at home.
"Great win today for our group," Parkland head coach John Bowler said after the win. "Definitely some areas we need to clean up but being able to have a strong showing in a region game the way we did is really important. Proud of our guys for showing some resiliency when things weren't going their way early. Although handling that adversity is key for us later in the year, finding a way to start games better defensively is a huge focus moving forward."
