DANVILLE, Ill. – The No. 11 Parkland College women's basketball team pulled away late in a 68-46 road win versus conference-rival Danville Area Community College on Wednesday, February 14. The Cobras (20-3) (8-1) held a slim four-point lead over the Jaguars (14-10) (3-6) at halftime, but the visitors found their groove and poured it on in the second half to win their fourth straight game. Parkland outrebounded DACC 51-28 and outscored the Jaguars 34-16 in the paint, while sophomore forward
Rhylea Johnson led the Cobras with 17 points in the win.
"It was a hard-fought game tonight, and I am proud of the resiliency from the ladies," head coach Jean Demosthenes said after the win. "It is always tough to play at Danville, but the ladies found a way to win."
The Cobras opened an early 17-12 lead in the first quarter, taking a 25-18 lead midway through the second quarter, but the Jaguars closed the gap before halftime and trimmed the Parkland lead to 27-23 before the break. The Cobras quickly regained control in the second half, extending their lead to 37-25 with 6:06 to go in the third quarter, forcing the Jaguars to call a timeout. The visitors went into the fourth quarter with a 47-31 lead as the offense continued to click, and the Cobras coasted to a 68-46 win.
