ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 20 Parkland College Baseball team held onto a 4-2 win against McHenry County College on Sunday, March 10th, at Lewis University. The Cobras (7-5) coughed up a late, one-run lead to the Scots (5-4) in the 8th inning, but outfielder
Scott Newman produced a go-ahead 2-RBI double, and Parkland pulled out the victory in a nail-biter. Sophomores
Ryan Snell (2-5, 2B, RBI) and
Charlie Marisca (2-4, 2 2B, R) each led the offense with two hits, while shortstop
Tylor Phommachanhom (1-3, 2 R) scored a game-high two runs. On the mound, starter
William O'Gorman (3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 6 K, BB) struck out six of the 10 batters he faced, and freshman
Gavin Parkerson (2-1) earned the win.

Up next, the Cobras welcome Carl Sandberg College to the Rantoul Sports Complex for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 12th. First pitch against the Chargers (1-3) is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

McHenry County got on the board first in the top of the 4th inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a bases-loaded fielder's choice double play. Parkland responded in the bottom of the 4th, tying the game on an error and taking a 2-1 lead after outfielder
Ryan Snell drove in
Tylor Phommachanhom. The Scots took advantage of another bases-loaded situation in the top of the 8th, tying the game 2-2 on a sacrifice fly, but the Cobras answered again, as freshman
Scott Newman (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI) lined a clutch, go-ahead 2-RBI double into left field, giving them a 4-2 lead.

McHenry County loaded the bases again in the top of the 9th with two outs, but reliever
Mike Boyce struck out the final batter to secure the 4-2 win and earn his first career save.

Jaxon Christensen (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 K, BB) relieved O'Gorman in the 4th, and sophomore
John Cederberg (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 K, BB) entered the game in the 7th. Parkerson (2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, BB) got out of the 8th-inning jam to pick up the win, and Boyce (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) faced all six batters in the 9th inning for the save.
