No. 19 Cobras Fall to Lewis & Clark 3-1

Shion Hayashi scores for Parkland

Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 19 Parkland men's soccer lost a match at home to Division I Lewis & Clark (9-3) on Monday, September 30th. The Cobras are now 4-3-3 this season.

Lewis & Clark scored the first goal of the match in the 24th minute, and Parkland quickly answered with a goal from Shion Hayashi in the 28th minute. The Trailblazers scored again in the 33rd minute and the 42nd minute, making the score 3-1 at the half. The Cobras pushed forward in pursuit of more goals in the second half, but could not break through the Lewis & Clark defense. After a scoreless second half, the Cobras fell to the Trailblazers 3-1.

"A tale of two halves today," Parkland head coach Mark Sikora stated after the tough loss. "We were not terrible in the beginning but had a really bad 10 minute stretch where the hole was dug pretty deeply and we stopped playing the way we like. The second half was so much better and proved that we are still a top, competitive team. So many players did well with Shion, Hidenori, and Ebenezer leading the way in order to give us a chance to claw back into the game but we couldn't find the goal that I was hoping would spring us forward.  At some point we have to find a way to get results against top teams in the NJCAA D1 level. Luckily we have another shot in two days time."

Parkland had eight shots on goal against Lewis & Clark. Haruki Arakawa had two saves and Matteo Puli had one save.
