Box Score 2 YOUNGSVILLE, Louisiana – No. 21 Parkland College softball split two games on opening day at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Youngsville, Louisiana, on Friday, January 31. The Cobras (1-1) won their first game against Meridian Community College (0-2) and then fell to NJCAA Division I Bossier Parish Community College (2-0) in eight innings.Â

Game 1: No. 21 Parkland College 7, Meridian Community College 1

The Cobras grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, then piled on four more runs in the third inning. A
Kailyn Wilson solo home run in the 6th inning put the Cobras ahead by six, and they secured the 7-1 win against the Eagles.Â

Mya Brown (6.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K) struck out five batters in the first game of the season, earning the win on Friday afternoon.
Reece Sarver led the team in hits with three, and
Claire Black finished the game with three RBIs.
Kailyn Wilson,
Jordyn Turner, and
Tori Thomas each added two hits apiece.Â

Game 2: Bossier Parish Community College (DI) 6, No. 21 Parkland College 5

The lead changed a few times in the second game of the day, and the Cobras had the 5-3 lead going into the 7th inning. The Cavaliers continued to battle in the bottom of the 7th inning, hitting two singles to take it to an extra inning. Parkland was unable to score in the top of the 8th inning, and the Cavaliers hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th inning to win 6-5.

Claire Black (6.1 IP, 12 H, 4 ER, 3 K) pitched 6.1 innings for the Cobras and
Lucy Fearday (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R) relieved her, getting the loss.
Kailyn Wilson produced two of Parkland's nine hits and
Nicole Sinks had two RBIs.Â
