Slot and Garrison Named Parkland College September Athletes of the Month

Consistency and leadership set the tone

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Parkland College Athletics has named men's golfer Peter Slot and women's cross country runner Aleigha Garrison as its September Athletes of the Month, recognizing their consistent excellence and leadership throughout the month's competitions.

Slot, a freshman from Esbjerg, Denmark, made an immediate impact in his debut season. He placed 12th out of more than 100 golfers at the Cougar Fall Classic on September 9th, helping the Cobras finish seventh overall out of 17 teams. He followed that performance with a first-place individual finish at the Danville Area Community College (DACC) Fall Invite on September 22, where Parkland secured second place as a team. "I am really proud of Peter," said Head Coach Nick Berger. "He has been a strong contributor in every tournament this fall, even getting a great first individual win at the DACC Invitational."

Garrison, a sophomore from Champaign, Illinois, continues to dominate the women's cross country circuit. She placed 37th at the Eastern Illinois University Walt Crawford Open, finished 40th out of nearly 200 runners at the Bradley Intercollegiate, and capped the month with a first-place finish at the Heartland Invitational on September 25th. "Aleigha is one of the hardest working athletes I've ever had," said Head Coach David Behm. "Her success in running is a direct result of the work that she puts in. She is a great leader and a great teammate."

Both Slot and Garrison exemplify the focus, work ethic, and competitive spirit that define Parkland College Athletics.
