Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –  The Parkland College softball team picked up two wins over Kankakee Community College (2-8) on Wednesday, March 12. The Cobras (8-9) collected 18 hits in the doubleheader, led by
Tori Thomas and
Claire Black with three hits each. Black (3-4) and
Lucy Fearday (1-1) both earned wins in the first home doubleheader of the season.Â

Game 1: Parkland College 6, Kankakee Community College 4

Tori Thomas got the Cobras rolling in the 1st inning, hitting a solo home run to left field to put the home team up 1-0. The Cavaliers put up four runs in the next two innings, pulling ahead 4-1, and maintained that lead until the bottom of the 5th inning.
Lucy Fearday and
Ellie Lowe both hit RBI singles in the 5th, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Cobra pitcher
Claire Black did not allow a hit in the top of the 6th, and Parkland scored another three runs in bottom of the 6th inning to pull ahead 6-4. The Cobra defense held the Cavaliers in the top of the 7th to earn the win in the first game of the doubleheader.Â

Claire Black (7.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) pitched all seven innings for the Cobras, earning her third win of the season.Â

Game 2: Parkland College 3, Kankakee Community College 2

Kankakee was the first team to get on the board in the top of the 1st inning, but the Cobras matched that in the bottom of the inning thanks to a double from
Nicole Sinks. Neither team scored again until the 6th inning, when the Cavaliers tacked on another run to go up 2-1. Parkland followed suit in the 7th inning, when
Maddie Gourley singled to score
Jordyn Turner, tying the game 2-2 and sending it to an 8th inning. Cobra pitcher
Lucy Fearday got two strikeouts in the top of the 8th, and the Cavaliers were unable to drive a run in.
Lindsey Muskopf came up to bat for the Cobras in the bottom half of the inning and hit a walk-off single to knock in the winning run.Â

Lucy Fearday (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) earned her first win of the season, only allowing one hit in two innings.
Mya Brown (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) started on the mound for the Cobras, throwing six innings.Â

Up next, the Cobras travel to Clermont, Florida, to play in The Spring Games. Parkland will face Macalester College (4-2) at 2:00 pm and Triton College (6-1) at 4:15 pm on Saturday, March 15.Â
