No. 25 Cobras Split Games at Grand Slam Classic

Maddie Gourley leads the way with five hits

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRANSON, Mo. – No. 25 Parkland softball won against NJCAA Division I Northern Oklahoma College Enid (5-14) but fell 12-10 to Neosho County Community College (7-5) on the first day of the Branson Grand Slam Classic on Friday, March 7. Maddie Gourley led the Cobras with five hits, and Mya Brown had 3 RBI. 
 
Game 1: No. 25 Parkland College 8, (DI) Northern Oklahoma College Enid 1
 
Nicole Sinks put the Cobras up 1-0 in the 3rd inning by hitting a solo home run, and the team piled on six runs in the 5th inning to get ahead 7-1. Tori Thomas hit a single in the 6th inning, giving Parkland an insurance run, and pitcher Lucy Fearday held the Jets scoreless in the top of the 7th inning. Parkland collected nine hits in the win, led by Fearday and Thomas with two apiece. 
 
Claire Black (5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) got the win, and Lucy Fearday (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) pitched the last two innings for the Cobras. The two pitchers only allowed two walks while striking out six batters. 
 
Game 2: Neosho County Community College 12, No. 25 Parkland College 10
 
The Cobras got on the board after Nicole Sinks doubled in the 1st inning, scoring one run. The Panthers earned the lead in the bottom of the 1st inning after scoring two runs, but the Cobras jumped out in front again in the top of the 2nd after Lindsey Muskopf had an RBI base hit and then scored on a wild pitch. The Panthers scored most of their runs in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings, compiling 10 runs in two innings. The Cobras continued to tack on runs throughout the game, out-hitting the Panthers 15-12, but they couldn't come back from the deficit and fell 12-10. 
 
Mya Brown (2.0 IP, 9 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 0 K) took the loss for the Cobras. Kailyn Wilson (4.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) relieved Brown, throwing four innings and allowing three hits. 
 
Up next, the Cobras play on day two of the Grand Slam Classic in Branson, Missouri, on Saturday, March 8. Parkland will play Division I Rose State College (9-9) at 8:00 AM and Coffeyville Community College (3-7) at 12:00 PM.
