No. 23 Cobras Go 2-0 at LLCC

Parkland records 36 hits in two games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The No. 23 Parkland College softball team earned two big wins over conference rival Lincoln Land Community College (15-19) on Sunday, April 13. The Cobras (27-11) controlled both games, racking up 36 hits while also drawing six walks. The Cobras added five more home runs to the 29 they have already launched this season, and smashed another nine doubles. 
 
Game 1: No. 23 Parkland College 14, Lincoln Land Community College 4
The Cobras got on the board in the 4th inning after a two-run home run by Nicole Sinks broke a scoreless tie and ignited an offensive surge that saw the Cobras plate six runs in the inning, followed by three more in the 6th and another five in the 7th. Sinks recorded three hits, three RBI, and was hit by a pitch. Abbey Horeis added to the firepower with a solo home run in the 6th and a double earlier in the game, while Lucy Fearday collected two walks. 

Mya Brown (3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits in 4.2 innings. Lucy Fearday (4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB) came on in relief, throwing 2.1 innings and striking out two. 
 
Game 2: No. 23 Parkland College 14, Lincoln Land Community College 5
After jumping out to a 3–0 lead in the first inning thanks to back-to-back home runs by Claire Black and Nicole Sinks, the Cobras continued to pour it on inning after inning. Lincoln Land rallied briefly in the bottom of the 1st and 3rd, tying the game at 3–3 and later closing the gap to 7–5, but the Cobras answered quickly each time. Black was unstoppable at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three doubles, a home run, and four RBIs. Abbey Horeis finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and four RBIs, including a solo shot in the 7th inning to extend the Parkland lead to 12-5. The Cobras recorded an impressive 21 hits in the win.

Pitcher Claire Black (3.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) weathered early trouble, and Lucy Fearday (4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) came in to shut the door with solid relief innings.

Up next, the Cobras play a home doubleheader against Illinois Central College (17-18) on Tuesday, April 15. The first game is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the Parkland College Softball Field.
