Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 24 ranked Parkland softball team went 1-1 on Wednesday, April 23, against Heartland Community College (13-24-1). Despite multiple home runs from
Kailee Otto in the first game, the Cobras lost to the Hawks 8-5, but fought back in the second game to get the 6-5 walk-off victory.Â

Game 1: Heartland Community College 8, No. 24 Parkland College 5

The Hawks went up 1-0 in the 1st, but the Cobras pulled ahead 2-1 in the 3rd thanks to home runs from both
Kailee Otto and
Jordyn Turner. Both teams hit their fair share of home runs in the game, and back-to-back Heartland bombs gave the visitors the 6-3 lead in the 6th inning. Another home run from Otto in the bottom of the inning narrowed the gap to 6-5, but the Hawks added insurance runs in the 7th to win 8-5. The Cobra offense was led by Otto, who had two hits and three RBI.Â

Mya Brown (2 BB, 5 K) took the loss, going five innings and allowing six runs on six hits.
Lucy Fearday (2.0 IP, 0 BB, 2 K) also threw for the Cobras, allowing four hits and two runs.Â

Game 2: No. 24 Parkland College 6, Heartland Community College 5
Heartland scored first again in the second game, but
Nicole Sinks put the Cobras on the board in the 4th with a solo home run to make the score 2-1. The Cobras started to pull away in the 6th inning, scoring four runs to give them the 5-2 lead, but a three-run home run from the Hawks in the 7th tied the game 5-5. In the bottom of the 7th,
Claire Black,
Jordyn Turner, and
Nicole Sinks all got on base, which put
Lucy Fearday up with the bases loaded. Fearday was patient at the plate, and drew a walk to win the game 6-5.Â
Sinks finished with three hits and
Lindsey Muskopf and
Abbey Horeis each knocked in two runs. Fearday (0 BB, 5 K) got the win on the mound, giving up two hits and three runs (2 earned).
Claire Black (3 BB, 2 K) threw four innings, surrendering two hits and two runs.Â
Up next, the Cobras play the final regular season doubleheader against No. 23 Danville Area Community College (29-9-1) on Saturday, April 26. The first game is scheduled for 1:00 pm at the Parkland College Softball Field.Â
