Parkland Softball Loses Two in the NJCAA DII Central District Championship

Kailee Otto leads the Cobras with four hits

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PARK HILLS, MO. – The Parkland College softball team lost two games in the NJCAA DII Central District Championship on Saturday, May 10. The Cobras (36-16) fell just short to St. Louis Community College (37-11) in the first game, and took the second loss to Illinois Central College (29-21) in a hard-fought 10-inning battle, which knocked them out of the Central District Championship.

Game 1: St. Louis Community College 3, No. 23 Parkland College 2

The Archers got up 2-0 in the top of the 3rd, but Kailee Otto launched a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 2-1. The Archers scored another run in the top of the 4th to extend the lead, but once again the Cobras responded quickly to put another run up in the bottom of the inning after Ellie Lowe grounded out into a fielder's choice to score Claire Black. The Cobras managed to get a few more runners on base, including a double from Otto in the bottom of the 7th to put a runner in scoring position, but they weren't able to pull ahead and fell 3-2.

Jordyn Turner, Lucy Fearday, and Kailee Otto all had two hits in the loss. Cobra pitcher Mya Brown (0 BB, 5 K) took the loss, throwing all seven innings and surrendering seven hits and three runs.

Game 2: No. 24 Illinois Central College 3, No. 23 Parkland College 1

The Cougars scored first, putting a run up in the top of the 1st inning. The Cobras tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning thanks to a Kailee Otto base hit to center field. Both defenses were solid throughout the remainder of the game, and neither team scored again until the 10th inning, when the Cougars scored two more runs to go up 3-1. All three Cobras that came up to bat in the bottom half of the inning put the bat on the ball, but they couldn't get a base runner, and they fell 3-1 to the Cougars.

The Cobras had seven hits in the game, led by Otto with two. Ellie Lowe and Nicole Sinks each drew a walk. Lucy Fearday (2 BB, 5 K) pitched all 10 innings, giving up 10 hits and three runs.
