Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 1 seed Parkland College softball team won the Region 24-A Championship after defeating No. 4 seed Lincoln Land Community College (21-25) for the second time in a row in the tournament on Tuesday, May 6. The Cobras (36-14) advance to the NJCAA DII Central District Championship after winning over the Loggers 13-6. Five Cobras received All-Region recognition:

Nicole Sinks, (catcher),
Mya Brown (pitcher), and
Lucy Fearday (utility).Â

The Cobras took an early 3-0 lead in the 1st inning, after
Claire Black singled to score
Maddie Gourley and then
Nicole Sinks launched a two-run home run. However, two home runs from the Loggers in the 3rd inning allowed them to take the 6-3 lead. Parkland responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning, pulling closer after
Nicole Sinks hit her second home run of the game. In the 4th inning, the Cobras regained the lead after back-to-back singles from
Kailee Otto and
Maddie Gourley tied the game 6-6, and a base hit from
Lucy Fearday made it 8-6. From there, the Cobras took control, piling on another five runs in the 5th to add some insurance.Â

"These young ladies never keep swinging the bats," Parkland head coach Lenny Sementi said after the win. "Our hitting coach Josh Shelmadine has them tuned in."Â

The Cobras compiled 15 hits in the game, led by Gourley with four hits in five at bats.
Nicole Sinks had three hits and four RBI, and
Lucy Fearday added two hits and three RBI. Cobra pitcher
Mya Brown (0 BB, 4 K) earned the win, giving up four hits and one run in 3.2 innings.Â
