Steve Whiteley

Steve Whiteley enters his first season as an assistant coach for Cobras Women's Soccer in the fall of 2020. One of his primary roles will be that of recruiting coordinator.

Whiteley has long been a part of the high school soccer scene in Central Illinois. He has been the Head Coach of Girl's Soccer at Champaign Central High School since 2016, where his current record is 37-39-2. He was an assistant for the same program from 2006-2011. He has additional experience with the boy's program at Central, serving as an assistant from 2009-2012, and compiling a 51-29-9 record as Head Coach from 2013-2016. He also had a stint at Mahomet-Seymour High School, where he was an assistant with the girl's soccer program in 2012, 2013, and 2015.

Over the years, Whiteley has helped to develop players that have subsequently played at the NCAA D1, D2, D3, and NJCAA levels. He has earned soccer certifications from USSF and United Soccer Coaches. He has been honored by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association as Section Coach of the Year, in 2017, and with the 2015 Myro Rys Sportsmanship Cup.

Whitely earned his master's degree in Coaching and Physical Education from SIU-Edwardsville, and his bachelor's Recreation Management from the University of Illinois. A native of Champaign & Storrs, Connecticut, he attended EO Smith High School and participated in club soccer and club ice hockey.

Whiteley currently teaches physical education at Franklin STEAM Academy. He and his wife Kara have two daughter's, Gia and Eva.
