Megan (Bushue) Herrig rejoins Cobras Women’s Soccer in the fall of 2020 for her second season as an assistant coach, having served in the same roll from 2008-2009. She was a longtime coach with Little Illini Soccer Club (now IFC), with stints from 2003-2009 and 2011-2014. In the 2009 season, she coached the U14 Girls to a USYS President's Cup National Championship. She has also served as a club administrator for Chicago Fire Juniors, from 2009-2011, and assisted the girl’s program at Centennial High School, from 2006-2007.
Herrig played for Parkland Women’s Soccer for two seasons. In 2004-05, she scored 11 goals for the Cobras, while notching 3 assists. During the 2005-06 season, she scored 13 goals and added 13 assists. She was selected to the All-Region 24 Team in both seasons.
A native of Champaign, Illinois, Herrig attended Champaign Centennial High School where she was a 4-time All-State, 4-time All-Big Twelve Conference, and 4-time All-Area soccer player. She tallied 106 career goals with 84 career assists, helping her team qualify for the IHSA State Tournament in three seasons.
Herrig’s family is active in the soccer community around the world. One brother, Cole Bushue, is an assistant coach with the men’s soccer program at DePaul University. A second brother, Jacob Bushue, is currently caption of the Finnish club, FC Haka, which plays in Finland’s first division.
Herrig has two master’s degrees, one in Family Services, from Eastern Illinois University, and a second in education, from Aurora University. She received her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois.
Herrig currently works at Bottenfield Elementary School, teaching the 3rd grade. She and her husband, Seth, have two sons, Lawson and Maddon.
