Cliff Hastings returns to Parkland College volleyball in fall 2024 for his 16th season having posted an impressive overall record of 735-65 (92% winning percentage). Under Hastings, Parkland Volleyball won back-to-back National Championships in 2015 and 2016, before recapturing the title in 2021, and has finished as Runner-up five times (2013, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2020). Parkland is the only NJCAA volleyball team to advance to Nationals each of the last 16 years and the only team to advance to the Final Four in 11 consecutive seasons. Hastings has coached several NJCAA and AVCA All-American team members and one AVCA Two-Year College Player of the Year. Hastings was also honored as the AVCA Two-Year College Coach of the Year in 2015 and was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2018.
Hastings brings nearly 20 years of volleyball leadership experience to Parkland as director of Prime Time Volleyball Club along with success coaching club and high school teams (Rantoul HS and HS of St. Thomas More) prior to Parkland. Cliff graduated summa cum laude with a degree in mathematics from Monmouth College where he played basketball, ran track and played on the men's club volleyball team. Post college, he was an All-Conference middle hitter and competed as setter and middle hitter for adult men’s club teams that finished 5th and 9th at USAV Nationals. His full-time job is as the Director of Sales & Strategic Initiatives at Wolfram Research, Inc overseeing operations in the Americas, Asia and Australia for the company.
Cliff is extremely proud of the reputation Parkland volleyball has built, both on and off the court. Coupled with the success on the court, the Parkland volleyball team consistently ranks high academically and participates in a number of community service projects. The coaching staff works closely with the players to find great homes to play volleyball at a four-year university post-Parkland.
He notes his greatest joy comes from seeing the girls mature to be young women full of self-confidence and passion for Parkland and for each other. He mentions that he always looks for potential Parkland players to strike that balance of love for winning, for the sport, for working hard, for making new friendships, for finding themselves, for getting a great education and for giving back to others what they have been so fortunate to have in their own lives.
Cliff lives in St. Joseph with his husband/assistant coach, Ron Hoppe-Hastings, and they have twin daughters (Alex & Sydney).
