Ron Hoppe-Hastings

Hoppe-Hastings enters his 16th year with the program. Hoppe-Hastings has played a pivotal role in the continued success of the Cobras, seeing them win back-to-back National Championships in 2015 and 2016 before reclaiming the title in 2021. Hoppe-Hastings has also been a part of the Cobras historic run being ranked inside the top five of every national ranking since the archives started tracking the metric in 2015. After the 2021 National Championship, Hoppe-Hastings was honored as the AVCA Two Year College Assistant Coach of the Year.

Hoppe-Hastings has nearly 20 years of volleyball coaching experience as both a coach and the Assistant Director of Operations for the Champaign-based Prime Time Volleyball Club. As a player, Ron helped lead Ball State University’s men's club volleyball team to the National Intramural Recreation Sports Association championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005. As an outside in 2004 and a libero in 2005, Hoppe-Hastings’ club team had back-to-back top ten finishes at the NIRSA Championships.   

Ron graduated cum laude from Ball State University in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science. He completed his master's degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education in 2008. Ron switched careers after a short stint as a stay-at-home dad and obtained his associate’s degree in Nursing from Parkland College in December 2020 and then his bachelor’s of science in Nursing from SIU-E in 2023. Ron currently serves as the Ambulatory RN Coach for the Transition to Practice team at Carle.
 
Ron and Cliff have twin daughters, Alexandra and Sydney, and reside in St. Joseph, Illinois.
