The #10 Parkland Men's Basketball team rallied from a 24-3 deficit to start the game, but came away with an exciting 78-76 victory over North Arkansas College. The win gets the Cobras off to a (1-0) start while NAC falls to (1-1), the Pioneers had won their season opener 105-66.
Down by 21 early, head coach
Anthony Figueroa called a pair of timeouts and eventually cleared the bench to help jump start the Cobras. Devonte Daniels would come off the bench to spark PC as he and his teammates clawed back to trail by just two at 39-37 at the half.
The second half was a back and forth affair with Parkland eventually grabbing a seven point lead with just four minutes remaining. The final four minutes was a foul fest, and with the Cobras leading 78-76, PC missed three straight free throws to keep the Pioneers in the game. With just 3.4 seconds to go and coming out of a timeout, North Ark. had the ball under the PC basket but the defense clamped down and did not allow them to get off a shot.
Daniels led the PC attack with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
Isaiah Curry added 15 points and 8 boards, while
Quin Nottingham came off the bench to add 7 points and 5 assists. The game was a typical early season contest as the two teams combined for 46 turnovers and 50 fouls. PC shot 44% on the night to 41% for North Ark and won the battle at the line 64% to 55%.
PC will play again at 2:00 Saturday against Arkansas State-Mid South in the title game of the Greyhound Classic in West Memphis, Arkansas.
