Carter Jeffries scored a career-high 36 points, including eight threes, as the No. 15 Parkland men's basketball team defeated Lansing Community College, 91-69. Freshman forward
Bruno Williams Jr. added in a double-double with 16 rebounds and 10 points.
Surpassing 90 points for the second time in its first three games, the Cobras shot 43% from the field, including a season-high 12 threes on 46.2% shooting, and converted 23 of its 30 free throw attempts (76.7%) to key the road victory. Defensively, Parkland held Lansing in check from beyond the three-point line, as the Stars made just 29% of their threes. won the rebound battle, 42-40, and forced eight Lansing turnovers.
Hitting eight of Parkland's 12 three pointers, Jeffries was efficient in his 23 minutes. Hitting nine of 14 shots overall, all but one of the freshman's attempts came from three-point range. In addition to his stroke from distance, Jeffries also got to the free throw line where he converted 10 of his 11 free throws.
After bringing down six rebounds combined in his first two games this season, Williams Jr. hauled in 16 on Saturday including five on the offensive glass. Offensively, Williams Jr. converted three shot attempts and added in four free throws to reach double figures. Joining Williams in double figures was Jr.
Ty'Ohn Trimble (13) and
Yaakema Rose Jr. (11).
Up next, the Cobras play their first game in the Land of Lincoln on Tuesday, November 13, when they travel to Oglesby, Ill., for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Illinois Valley.
