Box Score OGLESBY, Ill. – The No. 15 Parkland men's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season with its third road win of the season, an 83-79 victory at Illinois Valley, on Tuesday night. Sophomore
Ty'Ohn Trimble led the team in scoring (19 points), while sophomore forward
Darin Bellinger recorded his first double-double of the season (12 points, 10 rebounds).
Tied with Illinois Valley, 79-79 with a minute remaining, Parkland's defense put together back-to-back stops to set up the victory. With Illinois Valley looking to take the lead, sophomore forward
Mark Emmanuel Jr. deflected the ball, forcing a turnover that Trimble scooped up and turned into the go-ahead layup at the other end. The Cobras again stymied the Eagles, earning the stop and setting up a pair of Trimble free throws with seven seconds left to clinch the victory.
In addition to Trimble's season-high 19 points and Bellinger's double-double, the Cobras also received solid production inside from freshman big
Joey Saracco with 11 points, seven rebounds and a block, while TyJuan Red also reached double figures with 10 points. Joining Bellinger in rebound production, Emmanuel Jr. also pulled down 10 rebounds as the Cobras totaled 24 rebounds on the offensive glass alone. The Cobras also aided its offense by making 20 of its 24 free throw attempts.
Parkland started off the game on a 13-2 run to take an early lead on the road. However, the hosts ended the half on a run of their own, outscoring the Cobras by seven in the final 12 minutes of the half, to draw within four points at 33-29. Despite shots not falling in the first half, the Cobras picked up 14 offensive rebounds which led to 18 of their 33 first-half points coming in the paint.
Hot shooting by Illinois Valley in the second half, including 7-13 from three-point range, led the Eagles to their first lead of the game, 62-60. After Parkland responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead, Illinois Valley chipped away at the deficit and then took a 72-69 lead with three minutes remaining. The two sides again traded the lead before a
Yaakema Rose Jr. free throw tied the game one final time, 79-79, to set up the game-winning defensive stops.
Up next, Parkland will conclude its season-opening five-game road swing with a trip down to Mattoon, Ill., for a Saturday, November 17, matchup against Lake Land Community College.
