CHAMPAIGN, IL – No. 1 Parkland volleyball swept two more matches at the Mid-West Athletic Conference (M-WAC) Tournament, winning in straight sets over Lewis & Clark (25-12, 25-11, 25-12) and Spoon River (25-6, 25-16, 25-14). This secured the program's 24
th consecutive M-WAC Championship. The Cobras have now won 26 straight matches to improve to 43-1 overall for the season.
In Match 1 (L&C),
Summerlyn Smith (17 assists) and
Rachel Verdun (14 assists, 6 kills) set up their teammates for 41 kills, a group led by
Ryleigh Warfel (7 kills, 8 digs) and
Amanda Greening (7 kills).
Brooke Norder (12 digs) sparked a defense that also had 8 total blocks.
In Match 2 (SR), a balanced offensive attack was led by
Amanda Greening (8 kills),
Ellie Stone (5 kills),
Mallory Bergbower (5 kills, 6 digs), and
Rachel Verdun (5 kills) and was assisted by
Summerlyn Smith (16 assists).
Brooke Norder (4 aces, 6 digs) contributed ot the offense with four service aces. Defensively, 44 team digs were spread among 12 Cobras, including
Isabella Classen (9 digs),
Kayla Brandon (7 digs), Bergbower and Norder.
Next up for Parkland will be the Lincoln Land Tournament, in Springfield, IL, on Friday, October 18
th, and Saturday, October 19
th.
