SPRINGFIELD, IL – No. 1 Parkland volleyball swept its first two matches at the Lincoln Land Tournament, winning in straight sets over #12 Moraine Valley (25-19, 25-23, 25-13) and Kansas City CC (25-14, 25-15, 25-16). The Cobras have now won 28 straight matches to improve to 45-1 overall for the season. Individually,
Rachel Verdun (2273 career assists), with 23 assists on the day, has climbed to 3
rd all-time for career assists.
In Match 1 (MV), the offensive attack was led by
Amanda Greening (12 kills) and
Abigail Burnett (9 kills, 5 blocks), assisted by
Summerlyn Smith (23 assists, 5 aces) and
Rachel Verdun (10 assists). Defensively,
Brooke Norder (15 digs) and
Ryleigh Warfel (10 digs, 3 aces) paced the Cobras to 49 team digs, and
Hannah Benson (5 blocks) and Burnett led the team in blocks at the net.
In Match 2 (KC),
Amanda Greening (12 kills),
Ryleigh Warfel (7 kills),
Paige Yoder (7 kills), and
Abigail Burnett (6 kills, 6 blocks) spearheaded 42 team kills. Assisting them were
Summerlyn Smith (18 assists, 3 aces) and
Rachel Verdun (13 assists), and striking 3 aces each for the Cobras were Smith and
Gabby Wessels (3 aces). Defensively,
Brooke Norder (13 digs) and
Ellie Stone (10 digs) countered the KC attack with assistance from Burnett and Hannah Bensen (4 blocks) at the net.
