CHAMPAIGN, IL – Parkland women's soccer fell to 3-10 with a 3-4 non-conference loss to Waubonsee in their final regular season match.
The first period started slowly for both teams as the match remained scoreless through the first 38 minutes. However, both offenses came to life, and 4 goals were scored in the period's final 7 minutes.
Mary Woods (2 goals, 1 assist) opened the scoring, converting a PK awarded for a Waubonsee handball in the box. The Chiefs responded, however, with 2 goals of their own within the next 4 minutes. With less than 1 minute on the clock, Woods scored a second time with a shot in the upper right corner of the goal, making the halftime score 2-2.
In the second period, Waubonsee came out strong and scored 2 goals within the first 18 minutes. The Cobras responded with about 10 minutes remaining, when Woods found
Maria Jorquera (1 goal) who easily slid it past the Chiefs keeper. Parkland threatened as the clock wound down but was unable to find the equalizing goal.
Michelle Miller finished with 6 saves in goal for the Cobras.
Next up for Parkland women's soccer will be postseason play in the Region 24 tournament, which begins October 31
