BOONE, IA – No. 1 Parkland volleyball swept its first two games of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Tournament, winning in straight sets over host DMACC (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) and Hawkeye Community College (25-16, 25-12, 25-10). The Cobras have now won 20 straight to improve to 37-1 overall.
Against DMACC, offensive highlights included 26 assists from setter
Summerlyn Smith and 20 kills divided evenly between
Abigail Burnett (10 kills) and
Amanda Greening (10 kills). The Cobras recorded 64 digs, led by
Gabby Wessels (15 digs),
Mallory Bergbower (13 digs), and
Maranda Day (12 digs), while
Hannah Benson (5 blocks) led the team in blocks.
In game 2 (Hawkeye CC),
Abigail Burnett hit a blistering .643 to lead the team to an overall .500 hitting percentage that included a team total of 50 kills. Leading the team in kills were
Amanda Greening (12 kills),
Paige Yoder (11 kills),
Abigail Burnett (10 kills), and
Mallory Bergbower (10 kills).
Summerlyn Smith (24 assists, 4 blocks) led the team in both assists and blocks.
Gabby Wessels (12 digs) and
Ellie Stone (11 digs) paced the defense to a team total of 50 digs.
Tomorrow morning (Saturday), the top-ranked Cobras will carry their 20-match winning streak into back-to-back, top-five showdowns with defending national champion No. 2 Coffeyville, and immediately after, No. 5 Highland.
