CHAMPAIGN, IL. –Parkland women's basketball (5-0) extended its winning streak to 5 games with an 89-57 win over Rend Lake College (3-2).
The Cobras came out of the gate on fire, scoring the first 19 points of the game unanswered. By halftime, the lead had been extended to 40-19. The visiting Warriors played a more aggressive second half but were unable to cut into the halftime margin. The Cobras shot lights out from the field, ending the game at 50%, which included 9-16 from the arc. A stifling defense limited Rend Lake to 29% shooting and doubled up on the defensive boards, 36-18. The team also forced 20 turnovers, turning them into 30 points at the other end.
Individual standouts included
Emily Meinert (19 points, 20 rebounds, 6 assists) and
Peyton Crowe (19 points) who was 5-6 from the 3-point line. Joining them with double-digit scoring were
Bree Trimble (12 points, 2 steals) and Gema Alegre (12 points) who was 2-2 from the arc. In substantial supporting roles were
Nia Neal (3 assists, 3 steals) and
Ariana Booker (3 assists, 2 steals), along with
Cassie Russo (8 points, 10 rebounds) who added 10 boards, 8 on the defensive end.
