No. 13 Parkland Women’s Basketball Streaks to Seven Wins

Meinert steller on both ends of the court

CICERO, IL –No. 13 Parkland women's basketball (7-0) came from behind to extend its current winning streak with a 62-56 win over Morton College (5-3). Emily Meinert (15 points, 15 rebounds, 2 blocks) led the way with a huge double-double that included 13 defensive rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

The Cobras unblemished record to open the season seemed in jeopardy as a slow start yielded a 4-point lead to the host Panthers after two quarters. The opponent's lead was extended to as much as 11 in the 3rd until Parkland began slowly chipping away. The tide seemed to fully turn when Peyton Crowe (12 points, 3 steals) hit a half-court buzzer beater at the end of the 3rd quarter, cutting the Morton lead to 2 points. In the 4th quarter, the post duo of Meinert and Cassie Russo (15 points, 3 blocks) carried the scoring load, combining for 15 of the team's 21 points. The Cobras were also strong at the line in the closing period, making 9 of 12 free throws.

Throughout the game, additional Parkland offense came from Ariana Booker (8 points) and Gema Alegre (8 assists), the latter recording a season high in assists. Strong on the defensive side were Bree Trimble (7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) and Alex Specht (5 rebounds), who combined for 11 defensive boards.

Up next, Parkland travels to Greenville, IL, for a game against the Greenville University JV squad on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 6:00 pm.
