CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 10 Parkland women's basketball moved to 10-0 on the season with a hard-fought, 74-69 win over #6 (DIII) Rock Valley College (8-4).
Emily Meinert (21 points, 9 rebounds), who was 9-12 from charity stripe, led the Cobras in scoring.
Down by 4 points after one quarter, Parkland had a huge second quarter, outscoring the Golden Eagles 27-10, for a 13-point halftime lead. Rock Valley outscored Parkland, 43-35, in the second half, but the Cobras lead was too much to overcome.
Key producers for Parkland, in addition to Meinert, were
Bree Trimble (11 points, 5 rebounds), who was 3-5 from 3-point range,
Ariana Booker (10 points, 2 assists, 2 steals),
Cassie Russo (9 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks), and
Naomi McDaniel (8 points, 6 rebounds).
The Cobras defense held the Golden Eagles to 19 points below their season scoring average and its second lowest point total this season. In addition, the Parkland bench stepped up and made a significant impact, outscoring the Rock Valley bench 24-8. The Cobras outrebounded the Golden Eagles, 37-23.
