CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 8 Parkland women's basketball (10-1) lost its first game of the season, falling 50-77 to #16 Lake Land College (11-1). The Lakers scorched the nets from the 3-point line, making 7 in the first half, and 12 over all, while the Cobras were 0-9 from that range.
Offensively, Parkland was led by
Emily Meinert (16 points, 7 rebounds) and
Cassie Russo (9 points, 7 rebounds). Meinert, Russo, and
Naomi McDaniel (7 rebounds), Meinert, combined for 21 of the team's 33 rebounds, which was 7 better than Lake Land in that category.
The Cobras struggled to stop the hot-shooting Lakers, who were 13-16 for 81% in the 2nd quarter and held a 52-30 advantage at the half. Parkland also committed 24 turnovers to Lake Land's 12.
