KANKAKEE, Ill. - The No. 11 Parkland men's basketball team won its fourth in a row, improving to 8-2 with an 89-83 victory over Kankakee CC (7-4).
Carter Jeffries (36 points) made 6 three-pointers, ending the game 11-17 from the floor and 8-12 from the charity stripe.
Parkland once again started slowly and found itself down 17-4 and, a few minutes later, 32-15. After a timeout, at the 7-minute mark, the Cobras went on an 18-5 run and climbed to within 4 points, 37-33, at the half. At that point, Kankakee was shooting a blistering 58% from the floor, including 63% from the arc. Jeffries went 3-6 from the 3-point line to spark the first-half run, scoring 14 of his game-high 36 in that stretch.
Bruno Williams Jr. (20 points, 10 rebounds) contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds before the break.
In the second half, the Cavaliers extended their lead to as many as 13 points. A Parkland run eventually secured a 76-68 lead, as Jeffries again was hot from long-range, converting 3-5, which ignited his teammates. Kankakee called timeout and quickly proceeded to tie the game with an 8-0 run. With 2 minutes remaining,
Charles Campbell Jr. (12 points, 4 rebounds) converted a 3, that rolled and rolled around the rim as the shot clock wound down, giving the Cobras the lead at 79-76. Campbell Jr. was fouled on the following possession and converted both free throws, giving Parkland some breathing room. From that point, Parkland was 8-8 from the line, closing out the game.
