Cobras Rout Lincoln Land, Improve to 6-0 in M-WAC

Ty Walter Jr. scores season high, Williams Jr. double-double

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – No. 5 Parkland men's basketball remained undefeated in the Mid-West Athletic Conference with a 91-59 rout of Lincoln Land on Wednesday evening. Now 21-2 on the season, the Cobras were led by Ty Walter Jr. (18 points), Yaakema Rose Jr. (17 points) and a double-double from Bruno Williams Jr. (13 points, 11 rebounds).
 
Knocking down 11 threes in the victory, the Parkland success from deep was highlighted by nine treys from Walter Jr. and Rose Jr. Scoring in double figures for just the second time this season, Walter Jr. connected on four of seven three-pointers – seven of 10 overall – while Rose Jr. scored 15 of his 17 points on five made triples.
 
Leading the Parkland offense to a 40-12 advantage on points in the paint and a 49-29 margin on rebounds, Bruno Williams Jr. recorded his third double-double of the season and second in as many games. Providing 10 of his 13 points in the paint, the freshman also was active on the offensive glass with six of 11 rebounds aiding the Cobras' 23-7 advantage in second-chance points. Fellow forwards Darin Bellinger and Joey Saracco joined the rebounding effort with eight boards each.
 
Leading the Loggers by three points, 18-15, with eight minutes remaining in the half, the Cobras used the following six minutes to take control of the game. Scoring 17 unanswered points, Parkland pushed the lead out to 20 points, 35-15, with 2:13 left in the first half. Keying the 17-0 run was eight points from Ty Walter Jr. who hit a pair of threes early in the run. Yaakema Rose Jr. led Parkland in the first half with 11 points.
 
Holding a 39-20 advantage at halftime, Parkland maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half of the game. Making its lone run of the half, Lincoln Land used an 11-3 spurt to cut the Cobra lead to 12 points, 51-40, with 12:30 to go. But, Parkland was quick to respond with five straight buckets – led by a pair of shots from Joey Saracco and Jordan Coleman – to push the lead back out to 62-40 with nine minutes left in the game. The lead would remain above 20 points the rest of the way, maxing out at the 31-point margin of victory.
 
In total, 11 Cobras registered a field goal in the victory as Parkland shot a combined 44-percent overall and 42-percent from three. Defensively, the Cobras held the Loggers to just 36-percent shooting overall and only six offensive rebounds.
 
Up next, Parkland will battle John Wood on Saturday, February 23, at 1 p.m. in its final road game of the regular season. The Cobras finish off the regular season next week with home games against Illinois Central (Feb. 27) and Rend Lake (March 2).
