Up next, the series against Vincennes moves to Champaign for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2.
Game 1: No. 7 Parkland 3, Vincennes 1
Held scoreless through six innings of a nine-inning game one, the Cobras broke through against Vincennes hurler Kacey Cheek in the seventh inning with three runs to steal game one. Catcher
Robert Barnard hit the game-winning, 2-RBI single, while Rybarczyk picked up his fourth win.
Parkland's offense used six hits and drew seven walks to score their three runs, led by Barnard's two RBI and two hits from left fielder
Tynan Shahidi. Shahidi also drew two walks to reach base a team-high four times, while second baseman
Patrick Hayes drew three walks.
Jumpstarting the offense in the seventh, the bottom of the order loaded the bases for the Cobras. Shahidi put the tying run on base with a walk, followed by a Pierce single and
Patrick Hayes to set up Barnard's go-ahead single.
Trevor Minder added an insurance run with another RBI single.
Backed with a two-run lead,
Ricky Castro took over and closed out the victory with a perfect eighth and ninth innings. Picking up his second save of the season, Castro struck out four while not allowing a hit or a walk.
Game 2: No. 7 Parkland 7, Vincennes 6
Falling behind 4-0 in the first inning of game two, the Cobras took the lead for the first time in the seventh inning with a five-run frame to cap their second comeback of the day. Right fielder
Corey Price led the offense with two hits, a walk and an RBI.
Pillars (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, allowing an unearned run over 2.2 innings while striking out five. Keegan McHood started the game, throwing 4.1 innings and striking out five.
Trailing 5-2 entering the final inning,
Trevor Burkhart ignited the five-run comeback with a single, and then advanced into scoring position on a Barnard walk. Minder brought home the first run of the inning with a single, followed by a Price single to load the bases. The Cobras then took advantage of Vincennes mistakes, a walk by Warkentin, a pair of wild pitches and an error by the shortstop to give Parkland the lead. A
Jeremiah Lebron single single added an important insurance run, plating Warkentin.
Vincennes scored an unearned in the bottom of the seventh on a double, but Parkland gunned down the game-tying run at the plate.
Logan Pillars then struck out the final hitter to close out the sweep.
