CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 1 Parkland volleyball extended its winning streak to 15 straight matches with a pair of sweeps on Saturday over Rock Valley (25-7, 25-11, 25-17) and Rend Lake (25-13, 25-12, 25-8). The Cobras are 32-1 on the win and will wrap up the Parkland Volleyball Classic on Sunday.
Outscoring Rock Valley 50-18 in the first two sets, the Cobras controlled Saturday's morning match from start to finish, as setter
Summerlyn Smith conducted a .347 hitting percentage with 21 assists.
Mallory Bergbower was Smith's biggest beneficiary, as the freshman led the Cobras with a season-high 15 kills on just 22 swings for a robust .636 hitting percentage. The offensive dominance was backed by stingy defense that saw the Cobras record 10 blocks, including
Dakota Harmon's team-high five stuffs.
Parkland returned in the evening with their second sweep of the day, taking down Rend Lake in straight sets behind 13 team blocks and
Amanda Greening's 11 kills.
Rachel Verdun and
Summerlyn Smith combined for 28 assists, as Greening slammed 11 kills on 15 errorless attempts. Warfel finished second on the team with seven kills. Defensively, the 13-block effort was led by three blocks from
Hannah Benson,
Paige Yoder,
Dakota Harmon and
Katie Kaiser.
Up next, the Cobras wrap up the weekend with two more matches to conclude the weekend tournament. Parkland hosts Owens at 10 a.m. central time before battling Millikin JV at 2 p.m.
