CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 19 Parkland women's basketball (15-2) overwhelmed Malcolm X College (7-8), posting a final score of 104-22. The 104 points was the most scored by Cobras women's basketball since February 20, 2016.
Emily Meinert (24 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists) and
Naomi McDaniel (22 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks) both had career highs in scoring, and three additional Cobras,
Peyton Crowe (12 points, 2 steals),
Alex Specht (11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists), and
Bree Trimble (10 points, 5 rebounds) joined them in double figures.
Parkland's defense was stifling, limiting Malcolm X to only 5 points in the first half, including a scoreless stretch of 18-minutes. Led by Meinert, McDaniel, and
Lotte Miller (6 rebounds, 3 assists), the Cobras outrebounded the Lady Hawks 50-25, holding the 5th best offensive rebounding team in the country to only 10. Parkland shot 61% for the game and held Malcolm X to 13%.
