CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 20 Parkland women's basketball (17-2, 1-0 MWAC) won its sixth in a row, with an 81-48 defeat of John Wood (8-13, 0-1 MWAC), in the conference opener for both teams.
The Cobras continued their hot play on the offensive end, scoring 56 points in the 1st and 3rd quarters alone, and shooting 61% for the game. Four Cobras scored in double figures, including
Emily Meinert (20 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block),
Cassie Russo (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks),
Lotte Miller (12 points, 5 assists), and
Naomi McDaniel (10 points, 3 blocks). For Meinert, it was her 11th double-double of the season, and for Miller, it was a career-high afternoon.
The Parkland defense was just as dominant, limiting the Blazers to 23% shooting in the second half and forcing 22 turnovers. Led by Meinert and Russo, the Cobras won the battle of the boards, 30-14 (a season-low for John Wood).
