CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 19 Parkland women's basketball (17-3, 1-1 MWAC) lost by the score of 67-74 to #16 Illinois Central College (16-6, 2-0 MWAC). The loss snapped a six-game winning streak and dropped to Cobras to 1-1 in conference play.
Parkland and the visiting Cougars battled back-and-forth in the first half, with Illinois Central taking a 5-point lead, 37-32, into the locker room. The Cobras came out hot after the break and led by one, 51-50, at the end of the third. The fourth quarter saw two completely different teams. The Cougars began with an 11-2 run and shot 57% in the final period alone. Parkland, on the other hand, shot 28% in the same frame. The Cobras had several quality chances throughout the game, but shots were not falling from the arc or from the paint. Ultimately, Parkland was 1-of-9 from the 3-point line and missed nine free throws, which was very costly against a quality, ranked opponent.
Offensive standouts for the Cobras included
Emily Meinert (14 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals),
Gema Alegre (13 points, 3 assists), and
Peyton Crowe (11 points). Additional support came from
