FORT PIERCE, Fla. –No. 8 Parkland women's basketball (11-2) lost 75-87 to Indian River State College (10-8) in the first game of its winter break Florida trip. Despite the loss,
Emily Meinert (19 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block) earned her 7th double-double of the season.
The Cobras fell behind early, trailing 20-28 after one quarter, and The River never relinquished that lead. Parkland cut the deficit to 4 points a couple of times but still trailed by10 at the half. The Cobras were strong from the arc in the first half, making 4-6, but then fell to 1-10 from the same distance in the second half. Though both teams tallied 20 points in the 3rd quarter, Indian River, who shot above its season average from 3-point range, extended the lead to 12 by the final buzzer.
Parkland's offensive attack was balanced, led by Meinert,
Bree Trimble (10 points), and
Peyton Crowe (10 points, 5 assists, 1 block).
Naomi McDaniel (8 points, 1 block),
Lotte Miller (8 points, 4 assists),
Ariana Booker (8 points) contributed as well, each scoring 8. The Cobras suffered a season-low 31 rebounds, paced by Meinert and
Cassie Russo (7 points, 6 rebounds). On the positive side, the team also had a season-low in turnovers, with 15, and Crowe and Miller led the team to equal its season-high in assists, with 20.
