EAST PEORIA, Ill. –Parkland women's basketball fell to 21-5 on the season, and 4-3 in MWAC play, with a 57-64 loss at No. 13 Illinois Central (21-6, 6-0 MWAC).
Offensive miscues put the Cobras into an early hole, as Parkland trailed by 9 points after one quarter and then by seven, 23-30, at the half.
In the third period, the Cougars built the lead to 13 points, at which point the Cobras began to rally. With under 3 minutes to play, Parkland tied the score, 55-55. Illinois Central then went on a 6-0 run, ultimately scoring 9 of the game's final 11 points and remaining undefeated in conference play.
Emily Meinert (20 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks) notched her 16th double-double of the season, and she was helped out on the boards by
Cassie Russo (10 rebounds). Additional scoring came from
Naomi McDaniel (9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists) and
Ariana Booker (8 points, 3 rebounds), who was 2-4 from three-point range.
Lotte Miller and
Gema Alegre each had 2 steals for the Cobras.
