Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Joey Gruner

No. 18 Parkland Men's Basketball Felled by Cougars

Williams Jr. posts sixth double-double

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The No. 18 Parkland men's basketball team (19-6, 4-2 MWAC) lost a key conference game, 57-69, to Illinois Central (12-14, 3-3 MWAC).

The Cobras were slow out of the gate and trailed throughout the game. Poor shooting from the floor, 35%, including 3-14 from 3-point range, allowed the Cougars to take a halftime lead of 33-28.

Early in the second half, Parkland inched its way back, eventually tying the score, 44-44. From that point on, ICC slowly pulled away. With just over four minutes to play, the Cougars' lead was nine, 58-49. A Noah Persich (10 points) 3-pointer brought some hope for the visitors, but ICC ended the game on an 11-5 run.

The Cobras ended the game shooting 33% from the field and were 8-31 from behind the arc. In addition to Persich, Bruno Williams Jr. (18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists) and Carter Jeffries (14 points, 3 steals) scored in double figures. Joey Saracco (7 points, 6 rebounds) helped out Williams Jr. on the boards, and Kamari Kenemore dished out 4 assists.

Up next, the Cobras will be in Danville, Ill., to take on DACC, on Wednesday, February 26th, at 7:30 pm.
