Jaguars’ 3-Pointer Sinks Parkland Men's Basketball

Cobras’ game-tying bucket called off

DANVILLE, Ill. - Parkland men's basketball (19-7, 4-3 MWAC) suffered its second conference loss in a row, losing 61-65 to Danville Area CC (13-11, 5-3 MWAC).

Parkland took a 30-27 lead into halftime, and the game remained tight throughout.

DACC came back to take the lead midway through the second half on 58% shooting from the floor. The Cobras trailed by 6 points with just under five minutes to play when Charles Campbell Jr. (12 points, 7 rebounds) sparked a 10-4 run to draw within 2 points.

With just under a minute remaining, Carter Jeffries (12 points) tied the game, 58-58.  The Jaguars answered with two points of their own, but with 25 seconds left, Bruno Williams Jr. (20 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists) took the ball strong to the rim. He made the layup and drew a foul. His free throw conversion put Parkland up by one, 61-60, forcing DACC to call timeout with 15 seconds on the clock.

The Jaguars executed effectively out of the short break and made a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left. Tommy Makabu (8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) then drove all the way to the Parkland hoop, banking in a layup with 3 seconds remaining. However, he was whistled for an offensive foul, negating the two points. DACC ended the game converting two free throws on a quick foul.

Up next, the Cobras will be in Champaign, Ill., to play their final conference and regular season game against Lincoln Land CC, on Saturday, February 29th, at 3:00 pm.
