DANVILLE, Ill. - Parkland men's basketball (19-7, 4-3 MWAC) suffered its second conference loss in a row, losing 61-65 to Danville Area CC (13-11, 5-3 MWAC).
Parkland took a 30-27 lead into halftime, and the game remained tight throughout.
DACC came back to take the lead midway through the second half on 58% shooting from the floor. The Cobras trailed by 6 points with just under five minutes to play when
Charles Campbell Jr. (12 points, 7 rebounds) sparked a 10-4 run to draw within 2 points.
With just under a minute remaining,
Carter Jeffries (12 points) tied the game, 58-58. The Jaguars answered with two points of their own, but with 25 seconds left,
Bruno Williams Jr. (20 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists) took the ball strong to the rim. He made the layup and drew a foul. His free throw conversion put Parkland up by one, 61-60, forcing DACC to call timeout with 15 seconds on the clock.
The Jaguars executed effectively out of the short break and made a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left.
Tommy Makabu (8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) then drove all the way to the Parkland hoop, banking in a layup with 3 seconds remaining. However, he was whistled for an offensive foul, negating the two points. DACC ended the game converting two free throws on a quick foul.
