Parkland Softball Opens 2020 With Pair of Losses

Cobras lose 1-10, 2-12, on opening evening

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. – Parkland softball (0-2) added two early games against D1, No. 12 Central Alabama CC (12-2) to begin the 2020 season. The Cobras were working out nearby and the Trojans made contact looking for a couple of games, and opportunity Parkland wanted to take advantage of. The impromptu doubleheader kicked off a seven-game opening weekend in the deep south.

According to first-year co-head coach Dan Paulson, "We just didn't get the job done tonight.  We had too many walks, a few too many defensive miscues, and left 18 runners on base in two games."

Cobras highlights on the evening included Emma Newton, who was 6-6, and Ashley Lynch, who blasted a home run. Ashley Klinzing was strong covering center field, making some outstanding catches. Parkland collected 16 hits on the night, ultimately outhitting Central Alabama for the doubleheader, but could not string them together as they stranded 18 runners.

Up next, Parkland is playing three games today in Marian, Miss., starting with East Central CC at 9:00 a.m., followed by Northwest Mississippi CC at 11:00 am and Pearl River CC at 3:00 pm.

Parkland 1, Central Alabama CC 10 (5 innings)
The host Trojans jumped on Parkland early, scoring 7 in the first three innings. The Cobras plated one in the fourth, but Central Alabama answered with three in the fifth.
Parkland had 6 hits, compared to the Trojans' 7, and while the host team had 2 errors, the Cobras had 3 of their own.

Parkland 2, Central Alabama CC 12
In game two, Parkland scored 1 run in each of the first two innings. Central Alabama had 11 by that point, and added one more in the fourth.
The Cobras had 10 hits, to the Trojans' 8, but 3 errors proved to be costly.
