Parkland Softball Struggles in First Weekend

Still looking to get first win at Rush Invite

MARIAN, Miss. – Parkland softball (0-4) lost both games to open the Rush Invitational, falling 2-12 to No. 14 East Central CC (5-0), and losing 3-11 to Pearl River CC (5-7). A third scheduled game, against Northwest Mississippi CC, was canceled.
 
Up next, Parkland remains in Marian, Miss., for two games tomorrow, Sunday, February 23rd. The Cobras face Mississippi Gulf Coast at 9:00 am and Hinds CC at 11:00 am.
 
 
Parkland 2, No. 14 East Central CC 12 (5 innings)
The Cobras started off strong, with 2 runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the second, the Warriors bats were heated up and they scored nine runs. After a scoreless third, East Central added 3 more runs in the fourth.
 
For Parkland, Izzy Shafer was solid defensively at third base. She also had a hit and 2 RBIs.
 
Sydney Eichelberger started on the mound, pitching 1 1/3, and taking the loss. She was relieved by Shelby Frederick.
 
 
Parkland 3, Pearl River CC 11 (5 innings)
Parkland scored one in the first inning and added two in the top of the third to tie the game, 3-3. Pearl River scored one in the bottom of both the third and fourth, and then added 6 more in the fifth.
 
At the plate, Taylor Dugger was 2-2 with 2 RBIs, and Summer Johnson was 2-3.
 
Sydney Eichelberger pitched 4 innings, striking out 1, and taking the loss. Lauren Kavanagh came in for the fifth and also struck out 1.
