DANVILLE, Ill. –Parkland women's basketball (22-6, 5-4 MWAC) returned to the win column with a 65-39 win over Danville Area CC (6-15, 1-8 MWAC).
A strong defensive effort that stifled the host Jaguars also sparked the Cobras on its own offensive end. Parkland was up by 6 points after one quarter and extended the lead to 32-17 by the break. DACC continued to struggle in the third, scoring only 1 point in the opening six minutes. The Jaguars fought back in the fourth, but the Cobras' lead was too large to overcome.
Offensively, Parkland used a balanced inside-out attack that produced points from all over the floor. The Cobras shot 50% from the field, equaling that percentage from long range.
Bree Trimble (14 points) led all scorers, including a 4-6 performance from beyond the arc, and
Emily Meinert (11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) took care of things in the paint.
Other key contributors included
Lotte Miller (7 points, 3 steals),
Cassie Russo (6 points, 2 blocks),
Gema Alegre (6 points, 3 assists, 2 steals),
Naomi McDaniel (5 points, 7 rebounds), and Arianna Booker (5 assists).
Up next, Parkland is in Champaign, Ill., to host No. 5 Lincoln Land, on Saturday, February 29th, at 1:00 pm. This will be the Cobras' final conference and regular season game.
