EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – No. 16 Parkland baseball (5-5) split a four-game series with Muskegon CC (2-8) this weekend. The Cobras dropped the first two games on Saturday, 6-11 and 1-8, and then picked up a pair of victories on Sunday, 10-3 and 10-7.
Up next, Parkland will travel to Marion, Ill., for two games on Saturday, March 7th. The Cobras will take on Kankakee CC at 12:00 pm and will then face Carl Sandburg at 3:00 pm.
Game 1: (#16)Parkland 11, Muskegon 16 (10 innings)
Chase Gockel started on the mound for the Cobras and was relieved by
Charlie Hodges. Hodges pitched six innings, striking out 11 and giving up 3 runs.
Rigel Verciglio took the loss.
Offensively,
David Ascencio and
Brant Vanaman were each 4-6, and
Tyler Grigalis was 3-5.
Jeremiah Lebron was 2-5 with a home run.
Game 2: (#16)Parkland 1, Muskegon 8 (9 innings)
Brennan Dolwick started for Parkland. Jimmy Deangelo came in in relief, striking out 7 and giving up 1 run in four innings. Dolwick took the loss.
Tynan Shahidi was 2-2 at the plate.
Game 3: (#16)Parkland 10, Muskegon 3 (9 innings)
On the mound,
Jay Schueler (4ip, 2r, 4ks) earned the win with four innings of work.
Victor Fujiu (3ip, 1r, 5ks) picked up the save, pitching the final three innings.
On the offensive side,
Tyler Grigalis (2-3, 2 HR, 4 RBI) hit two out of the park, knocking in 4 runs, while Jeremiah LeBron (1-2, 1 HR) and Brant Venaman (1-3, 1 HR) each hit one home run. Trevor Burkart (2-4, 3 SB) stole three bases.
