NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America has released the 2020 NJCAA Division II All-Freshman Team. Parkland golfer,
Scott O'Brien, is one of only five student-athletes, nation-wide, to receive the honor.
O'Brien, from Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, was ranked the 16th best player in the nation this past season. He recorded a 73.6 stroke average over 10 rounds, sharing MWAC medalist honors with Parkland teammate,
Mason Ghidina.
O'Brien capped off his impressive Freshman campaign by earlier being named to the NJCAA Division II PING All-American Second Team. He helped lead the Cobras to a No. 4 national ranking in the final Bushnell Golfweek Coach's poll, from the same organization.
Though the COVID-19 crisis eliminated the 2019-20 Spring season, Parkland had a very successful Fall campaign. The Cobras were 39-3, taking first-place in three of the five tournaments in which they participated. In addition to earning the Mid-West Athletic Conference title, Parkland won the IVCC Fall Invitational and the Wabash College Classic. As a team, the Cobras averaged 74.6 strokes in 50 total rounds, and their lowest finish was 3rd.
