OLNEY, Ill. – No. 10 Parkland College Men's Basketball (1-1) bounced back from an initial loss to defeat Olney Central College (0-1) by the score of 82-62. The Cobras were on the road, participating in the Olney Central Invite.
The game was back-and-forth in the early stages with Parkland trailing, 13-14, six minutes in. After a 20-20 tie, and with some timely stops and great ball distribution, the Cobras built up a lead on a 21-8 run. At halftime, Parkland led 41-28, having used eleven contributing players.
The second half opened with another 13-5 run by the Cobras, and with sixteen minutes remaining, the score was 52-33. Olney was forced into multiple timeouts, and the lead grew to 23 points. The Blue Knights eventually made a push and cut the lead to 12 points, but a Parkland 6-0 run sealed the final result.
A balanced scoring attack saw four players in double figures:
Kevin Bishop II (14 points, 8 rebounds),
Kelvin Swims Jr. (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block),
Jamil Hardaway (10 points, 5 rebounds), and
Deonte Douglas (10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists). Additional scoring came from
Savon Wykle (9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 blocks) and
Josh Rivers (8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist). Parkland out-shot Olney by 48% to 32%.
Bishop and
Kamari Kenemore (6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 points) led the Cobras to a 42-35 edge on the boards.
Up next, Parkland will travel to Mattoon, Ill., to take on Lake Land College on Wednesday, January 27. Tip-off is scheduled at 6:00 pm.
