CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –Parkland College Women's Basketball (2-0) won its second straight game,
taking down visiting No.11 (DI) Wabash Valley College (1-1) by the final score of 71-64. The Cobras were led by sophomore
Naomi McDaniel (15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block).
The first half was relatively tight, as Parkland led by 4 points, 17-13, after one quarter and then by 6 points, 31-25, at halftime.
The second half was a different story, as each team dominated one quarter. The Warriors exploded offensively in the 3rd-period, out-scoring the Cobras 31-14, and taking a 56-45 lead. Parkland was able to turn the tables in the fourth, out-scoring Wabash Valley 26-8 and, ultimately, winning by a seven-point margin.
In addition to McDaniel, key offensive players included
Bree Trimble (13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists),
Mady Harper (12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals), and
Peyton Crowe (10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists).
Elly Haberkorn (9 rebounds, 7 points) and
Claire Wilhour (7 points, 3 rebounds) each added seven points for the home team.
Wabash Valley's Jazmyn Turner led all scorers with 21 points. However, Parkland held the visitors to 20% shooting in the 4th quarter, leading to their lowest offensive output in 33 games.
Parkland shot 68% in the second half and also dominated the boards, 39-17, with Haberkorn and
Shaelynn Bell (6 rebounds, 1 block, 3 points) leading the way.
