CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –Parkland College Women's Basketball moved to 4-0 on the season with a 78-68 win over visiting Olney Central College (0-3).
Naomi McDaniel (20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks) led all scorers and was strong under the basket, amassing 4 blocks.
The Cobras started the game on a 10-2 run, ultimately making their first ten shots, and extended the lead to fourteen, 28-14, after one quarter. By the half, the visiting Blue Knights had pushed back, but Parkland remained in the lead, 37-29.
Early in the second half, neither team could gain much of an advantage, with the third quarter ending at 57-46. In the fourth, Olney made a 13-6 run and came within 4 points with 3:50 remaining on the clock. At that point, the Cobras came back to life, outscoring the Blue Knights 15-9 to end the game.
Led by
Peyton Crowe (13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists), who had a career-high in rebounds, Parkland out-rebounded Olney, 45-21, leading to a 16-3 advantage in second-chance points.
Elly Haberkorn (11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks) was also strong on the boards.
The Cobras had six players score 7 points or more, with McDaniel,
Bree Trimble (17 points, 7 rebounds), Crowe, and Haberkorn leading the way.
Shaelynn Bell (8 points, 3 rebounds) was productive on both ends, and
Mady Harper (7 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals) dished out 8 of the team's 18 assists.
Up next, Parkland hits the road for the first time, traveling to Kankakee, Ill., to play Kankakee CC on Thursday, February 4. Tip-off is scheduled at 5:30 pm.
