Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland men's basketball team won their first home game of the season on Wednesday, beating Rend Lake College 76-70 in a tightly contested matchup. The Cobras trailed after the first half, but they fought back thanks to an excellent performance from Sophomore A'Kieon Gill, who tallied 6 points, 5 rebounds and a key block all in the second half.
 
The Cobras (0-2) struggled defensively in the first half, allowing the Warriors (0-1) to shoot 59 percent (16-27) from the field and 64 percent (7-11) from beyond the arc. Savon Wykle was the bright spot early, with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals in the opening half, but the Cobras trailed 45-33 at the half. Head coach Anthony Figueroa's halftime defensive adjustments were effective, as the Cobras came out of the break much more locked in and, quickly, they were back in the game. Parkland took its first lead of the game on a Savon Wykle layup with 1:18 remaining in the game, and the defense took care of the rest, not allowing a point in the final 2:36. Savon Wykle led the Cobras in scoring, finishing with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
