CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 1 Parkland College Volleyball (5-0, 1-0) earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-21) straight-set sweep over Spoon River CC (0-1, 0-1) in the first Mid-West Athletic Conference match of the season for both teams.
Parkland controlled the match from start to finish, with
Halle Everett (7 kills, 6 aces, 8 digs) striking six service aces, and
Hailey Sperling (8 kills, 4 digs) spearheading a host of Cobras to a team total of 36 kills.
Summerlyn Smith (27 assists, 6 digs) once again proved efficient in initiating the offense.
Jayden Sortor (5 kills, 4 blocks),
Arika Richardson (7 kills, 2 blocks), and
Katie Kaiser (6 kills, 2 blocks) controlled the net with 6 total team blocks, while libero
Kayla Brandon (16 digs, 1 ace) led a group of five Cobras with five or more digs that also included Everett, Smith,
Isabella Classen (5 digs, 1 ace), and
Brittney Litton (5 digs, 1 ace).
